Peterborough, Ontario
This year we visited Peterborough, Ontario. It's about a one and a half hour drive from Toronto up to this beautiful, peaceful oasis. We stayed at the Best Western Otonabee Inn. We loved it here. The hotel looked like a cottage. We had this amazing balcony that faced the Otonabee River and we loved sitting outside at night just reading and relaxing. The hotel provided a hot breakfast each morning and had an indoor swimming pool. What more could anyone ask for?
Here is a wedding gazebo right by the river. You can sit in here and watch the water.
This is the Otonabee River. You could actually access the hotel via boat. There's a place to tie up at the dock right outside of the hotel.
We took this river boat tour to see the area and locks. It was a really nice tour and the captain was really funny.
These locks are a must see when you visit Peterborough. The boat actually takes you into the lock and it lifts the boat up to the higher part of the waterway. There is a series of locks all along the way.
The guide and I working hard to open the lock. It's a lot harder than it looks.
If you are visiting Peterborough and you'd like to learn about Canadian history you should really visit the Canadian Canoe Museum. It's really worth seeing the museum and learning how canoes were made and how they are made today. They have a lot to see. There are even activities for the kids to participate in.
Above are some examples of some of the clothing that was traded back then.
Below is a Canada 150 art display that we saw at the mall.
