Todmorden Mills - A Hidden Bit Of History

Todmorden Mills was a small settlement located in the Don River valley in Toronto, Ontario. It started out as a lumber mill in the 1790s. Originally known as "Don Mills", it grew into a small industrial complex and village before becoming part of East York in the 20th century. Currently the valley site is occupied by the Todmorden Mills Heritage Museum and Arts Centre, which includes the museum, art gallery, a theatre and a forest preserve.

Here you will see the restored paper mill.  Inside of this building there is the art gallery and the main reception.
The day we went it was really muddy as the snow had just recently melted, but there are hiking trails that you are free to take and explore the area.  If you wish, there are guided tours for a small fee.
Here are some of the heritage homes that were in the area.

Once you have explored the area or gone on a hike you can go across the street to the Brick Works and see where the bricks were made that built this site.  Both places can be done in one day.  Do note that parking is very limited here and The Brick Works across the street is extremely popular and you may have trouble finding a parking space.

A Birthday Dinner And A Murder Mystery. What Could Be More Fun?

Neal asked me what I wanted to for my birthday.  I found this dinner theatre and thought it would be a lot of fun.  Mysteriously Yours Dinner Theatre was so much fun.  The murder mystery that is currently playing is called The Final Clue.  You must decide whodunit, which weapon, and in what room.  This is just like the kids board game only in play format.
First off they serve a really nice dinner.  You get to decide between the soup or salad, beef, chicken or fish.  And then dessert.  We sat at a table with another group of people and they were extremely nice and very friendly.
Dr. Lavender is telling me that since it's my birthday I will be taking part in the show.  As a matter of fact, I had a line in the show.  At one point I had to stand up and say....I've been stalked.  I recited my line like a pro.  It was all in good fun.
This fellow is Col. Dijon.  He looked serious but he wasn't.  He was actually really funny.

All in all this was a really great dinner theatre.  I would highly recommend you come for the evening.  Don't worry, if you are shy they will not bug you unless your spouse or friend tells them that it's your birthday or anniversary or some other special event.

They are located at:  2026 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario.  (416) 486-7469 or you can e-mail them at:  BoxOffice@MysteriouslyYours.com.
