Ice Storm 2013
These are some of the photos from our ice storm over the weekend. It started on Friday afternoon and it lasted well into Sunday afternoon. Close to a million residents of Toronto, Vaughan, Markham, Mississauga, Aurora have been without power since Saturday night. Many still have no power and it could be another 48 hours until the power is restored. There are hundreds of trees down. Some have fallen onto the power lines or across the street so that traffic and rescue crews can't even help out.
Thankfully after 18 hours without power ours was finally restored. No heat in the middle of winter makes the house rather nippy. Yup it got down to just 13 degrees inside our house. It got so bad that I needed to be wearing a hat, mittens and a scarf inside. Our birdie wasn't very happy at all. We had to cover his cage with blankets to him him warm.
This tree that is threatening to take out our shed belongs to our neighbour. It's an old olive tree. Unfortunately sometime yesterday the tree broke apart. There is very little of it left. Thankfully our shed is still standing. All in all it's been a very difficult time for all of us. My parents and Neal's parents are still without power and it's going into day three. They may have to wait until as late as possibly Friday to get it back.
If you know someone either in Canada or the US who works for a power company and is willing to come and help folks out in the Toronto area, all help will be greatly appreciated. Toronto Hydro is putting out the call for re-enforcements. They need help getting power restored as quickly as possible. Just give them a call. Thank you
