Fall's Here
Well another summer season has come to a close and our garden is all but finished now. We had a pretty good growing season for our zucchinis and tomatoes but the same can't be said for our peppers. They formed and then rotted right on the branch. Our carrots didn't produce at all and our cucumbers ended up getting rotten after one too many heavy rain storms. All that is left out there is our celery. I've used one bunch in soup and there are a few more still growing.
Our house survived a few nasty storms and in August there were 13 tornadoes that touched down in the area. One damaging a sign just 3 minutes away from home. Let me just say that was one very scary night. I was sitting watching the Y & R and I could see the sky turn darker and darker and then around 5:30 p.m. the sky took on this green hue and I knew that this meant a possible tornado. I turned on The Weather Network and sure enough they were telling the entire province of Ontario to take cover. I took the weather radio, a flash light, a comforter and my dinner down to the basement to wait out the storm. I have to say sorry to Neal for not taking his bird Cosmo downstairs to safety. In my panic I totally forgot her. First it started to rain and then the thunder and lightening and the high winds. It was one very intense storm that I will never forget. Thankfully our house escaped damage. The same cannot be said for some families that live near to Canada's Wonderland. Many homes were totally destroyed or very badly damaged. The next day we were at a computer store and the manager showed us a photo of a funnel cloud that passed right by the front door of the store.
If that wasn't enough, just 3 days later another 3 tornadoes hit main street Markham. Thankfully there was no serious damage but still very scary.
